Thompson Island is a 204-acre island 25 minutes from downtown Boston in the Boston Harbor Islands National park area. With outstanding views of Boston's skyline and Boston Harbor, the islands varied landscape with meadows, beaches, salt marshes, woodlands, and fields offers a rural setting juxtaposed to the cityscape of Boston. An educational institution has occupied the hill on Thompson Island since 1832. Today the school campus, Federalist-Georgian style architecture, is reminiscent of Harvard’s quads.
Thompson Island is a private island, owned and operated by Thompson Island Outward Bound Education Center. All proceeds from film location revenues help to support our programs for Boston’s youth. Island facilities and amenities include dorm accommodations, cafeteria, and full service catering. Location is 25 minutes from downtown Boston and Logan International Airport. We are the only island in the National Park area with a liquor license. The only access to the island is by the Thompson Island Motor Vessel, the M. V. Outward Bound or hired service ferries or barges. The island is not open to the public, except on Sundays, Memorial Day to Labor Day.
