For over fifty-five years in the USA, Outward Bound students have discovered the problem-solving, conflict resolution, leadership skills and, above all, the compassion needed to succeed in this expedition called life.
Outward Bound’s educational approach expanded to the USA in 1962 when the first group of Peace Corps volunteers came together using the Outward Bound experience to build character, inspire leadership and self-reliance, and encourage purposeful service. Now there are 11 Outward Bound USA regional schools delivering powerful educational experiences to students in classrooms, board rooms, urban parks, rural trails and in some of this nation’s most pristine wilderness settings.
Outward Bound USA is the national organization in America governing safety, risk management and scholarship fundraising for the national network of regional Outward Bound schools in the United States. Outward Bound USA charters the regional schools that deliver student programs in the U.S. and owns the Outward Bound trademark and brand.
Today in the United States, Outward Bound expeditions and programs bring our mission of ‘changing lives through challenge and discovery’ to life throughout the year, every day for close to 50,000 students annually.
With 11 chartered Outward Bound schools across the country and over 1,000 courses offered, regardless of your age or circumstances, there is an Outward Bound course at an Outward Bound school that is right for every student.
Outward Bound expeditions and programs are inside city and suburban classrooms and outside in breathtaking wilderness settings. All programs adhere to Outward Bound’s unique and powerful educational framework.
Classic Outward Bound wilderness expeditionary courses are offered for middle-school, high school, college age and adults. Also developed are a range of specialized courses and programs such as award winning program for Veterans, a program for teens grieving with the loss of a family member, programs for families with teens or young adults struggling with issues at school or at home. Outward Bound also has programs for ‘intact groups’ and team-building/performance improvement programs for professionals.
