Gala’s Success Propels Thompson Island into a New Season

Mayor Martin J. Walsh surprised our 2016 Gala and Auction attendees with an unannounced appearance. “It’s great to be here with so many people who are committed to encouraging every child to reach their full potential” commented Walsh from the stage at our April 7th event. The audience was also thrilled with his on-the-spot auction donation of lunch with the Mayor for four.

But this was not the only thrilling moment of the night, which helped us raise over $500,000 for our free programs for Boston Public School students. Sally Faulkner talked frankly about the rewards and challenges of teaching on the Island. And Arthur Pearson, President and CEO, delivered his most personal speech yet, about his work with Outward Bound:

“I came of age with people like Sally…and I still remember the faces of dozens of my students when the light went on. And that memory is still the touchstone for the work we want to do in Boston.”
