Dear Thompson Island Outward Bound Community,
Thompson Island Outward Bound stands in solidarity with the Black community and communities of color who face injustice and systemic oppression.
We ache for the families of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery and so many others; for the kids we serve in Boston who have experienced racist violence, witnessed it, or fear it for themselves; and for the neighborhoods across America that are literally burning with outrage.
Owning privilege and exclusion and committing to make a difference it is only a start. As past generations’ experience has shown us, we will need to work tenaciously for many years to create change that is deep and transformative. We must work tirelessly to educate ourselves, be of service to our communities, and to stand up to the violence and hatred that sickens our society.
It is our collective actions that will help our country rise out of this difficult chapter of pandemic, xenophobia, and racial and class conflict. We must create opportunities for young people growing up in 21st century oppression to rise up and lead our country to a brighter future. That is the mission of this organization. That is our work. We stand in unity.
