Run With Team Thompson Island!


Want to run the 125th Boston Marathon and support Boston students at the same time? As a proud official Boston Athletic Association Charity Partner in the 2021 Boston Marathon, we have a limited number of invitational entries to be used exclusively for fundraising, so now’s your chance!

Please see the 2021 Team Thompson Island Outward Bound application below. Recruitment to participate in the 125th Boston Marathon in-person race through the Official Charity Program will begin on April 20th, as will the application reviewing process. All Accepted Runners Will Receive:

  • An official bib for the 2021 Boston Marathon®.
  • A personalized fundraising page.
  • A Thompson Island Outward Bound fundraising guide with communication tools, social media templates, and more!
  • Invitations to socially distant local group training runs and a day of community building and learning on Thompson Island this fall. 
  • Fundraising support and guidance through regular team emails, social media groups, and monthly team calls.
  • Swag and gifts from Thompson Island Outward Bound and our partners.

Application and Race Requirements:

  • The 2021 Boston Marathon® will be held in October 11, 2021.
  • All accepted runners for the Thompson Island Outward Bound Marathon team must pledge to raise $7,500 to earn their 2021 Boston Marathon® entry.

  • All applicants must submit a $25 nonrefundable application fee. Payments can be made here.

  • Accepted runners must pay a $200 team fee (which will be credited to fundraising).

  • Upon registering for the 125th Boston Marathon, all accepted runners must pay an additional fee of $395 to the Boston Athletic Association (amount set by B.A.A.).

 Join Us Virtually!


 

The Boston Athletic Association has announced it will offer a virtual Boston Marathon, which will be open to everyone aged 18 or over, in celebration of the 125th Boston Marathon this fall. Held in addition to the in-person Boston Marathon, the virtual race will be open to the first 70,000 registrants and will be held on Friday, October 8th through Sunday, October 10th. 

This year, we want to help you to make the most of your virtual marathon experience by joining Team Thompson Island Outward Bound! Participants who register for the virtual 125th Boston Marathon will receive a virtual toolkit with an official BAA bib number and Unicorn finisher's medal. By joining our team and fundraising on our behalf, you'll also receive the full benefit package of a Thompson Island Outward Bound Marathon team member, and a chance to impact the education of Boston youth!

Virtual Participant Requirements:

  • Participants must register for the virtual 125th Boston Marathon. Registration opens Tuesday, March 30 through the B.A.A.’s online platform, Athletes’ Village.

  • All virtual members of Team Thompson Island Outward Bound must commit to fundraising $1,500 on behalf of the organization. Contact Devon Cooke for more information!

  • All participants will need to complete the marathon distance of 26.2 miles in one, continuous attempt in order to earn their Unicorn finisher’s medal, but will not be limited to any time restrictions.

  • Invitations to socially distant local group training runs and a day of community building and learning on Thompson Island this fall.
