By popular demand, this year’s 4K Trail Run extended over two days and opened up space for 75 corporate sponsors, with New Balance and BNY Mellon serving as Presenting Sponsors.
A total of 1500 runners traversed Thompson Island’s trails and raised over $350,000 for the Island’s free youth science programs. $85,000 of those funds have been raised through peer-to-peer efforts, bolstered by the commitment of Board Member Tom Niles and State Street’s Tom Ready.
Tom Niles kicked off the peer-to-peer campaign with a challenge grant to match all individual donations up to $50,000. Niles, who has supported Thompson Island for 30 years, was motivated by his belief that “quite simply, running changed my life” and his commitment to the value of Thompson Island. Inspired by Niles’ challenge and the event itself, 4K runners will continue to fundraise until the end of December.
After Niles threw down the gauntlet, Tom Ready picked up the challenge and led his State Street team to become fundraising champions with a total of $31,700 raised. Thanks to the remarkable efforts of these two Tom’s, countless other individual fundraisers, 4K runners, and dedicated staff, Thompson Island’s first two-day 4K Trail Run was a booming success!
