Climbers on Thompson Island Ropes Course

What is a Challenge Course?

The Basics:

A challenge course consists of high and low rope elements used for team building activities and personal development programs. Thompson Island’s challenge course includes two 62-ft tall aerial obstacle courses known as the alpine towers, that offer participants a wide variety of climbing options and ascent challenges. In addition, our team building programs utilize the island’s other outdoor high and low ropes climbing features that include a tension traverse, nitro swings, and a catwalk, as well as indoor climbing features.

All Thompson Island programs are conducted according to the “Challenge by Choice” model in which instructors allow each participant to select the level of challenge appropriate for them. Our challenge course is staffed by professional facilitators who possess industry-leading expertise in organizational development, consulting, psychology, business management, experiential education, and wilderness training.

Thompson Island’s challenge course is utilized in programming for middle school aged children and students in high school, college organizations, clubs, and orientation groups. It’s also used by adults as part of our Outward Bound Professional team building and leadership development programs.
