For 180 years Thompson Island has been a refuge for Boston’s most vulnerable young people, providing inspiration and education and a chance to change their lives. Today our Thompson Island Outward Bound Education Center programs continue this legacy of philanthropic leadership, empowering students to seek new goals, excel in school, learn to lead, and develop the compassion they need to make a difference in the world.

Campaign Campaign Celebration EventJune 3rd turned into a beautiful afternoon to celebrate our community's generosity, the impact it makes on the lives of young people, and pay tribute to those who are Expanding the Impact through the capital campaign. The event drew over 200 people and hosted five City Councilors, including Council President Bill Linehan, and the Suffolk County Sheriff, Steve Tompkins.
Arthur Pearson's favorite catchphrase bears repeating: "What happens on the Island does NOT stay on the Island." What happens on Thompson Island changes the arc of young lives. This statement shined through the speaking program with Mayor Walsh's Chief of Education, Rahn Dorsey, referring to Thompson Island as "the future of education." And when speaker Arnold Pesnell drew the line clearly from his experiences on Thompson Island as a boy, to the life he has now as a devoted father on a satisfying career path. Arnold ended with a song he learned on the island, his baritone voice bringing many of us to tears.
Thompson Island is proud to be among the best programs in Boston helping children achieve more in school and in life. Thank you to everyone who attended this spectacular event and supported Thompson Island in the capital campaign!
